Midfielder gives GREEN light to sensational Liverpool move
Liverpool are reportedly closing in on what could be a sensational move for an exciting midfielder who has already green lit the move.
At the moment, the jury is out on Richard Hughes. There are many Liverpool fans who gave him a lot of credit for his work in the summer.
However, those fans are now frustrated with the way Hughes has acted both this month and in the last few months.
It has become apparent that Arne Slot is no longer suitable for the job. Liverpool's performances have been dire this season and there is no way that this kind of run could be sustainable.
In the long-term, Liverpool need a new visionary. In the short-term change is necessary but so far Hughes has dithered on the decision.
On top of everything, he also dithered on moves for Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, who have both ended up at Manchester City as a result.
Hughes will have his reasons why he didn't pursue the two players, who would have been an instant upgrade for Liverpool. Ultimately, though he needs a way of getting the fans back on his side.
He also needs a transfer that really addresses what Liverpool are lacking at the moment.
And this is something the sporting director could be working on as we speak.
It's quite apparent that Liverpool still haven't really replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold's creativity and impact in the build-up. He was essential to getting the Reds to play between the lines and without that Slot's side have struggled to beat the opposition's press.
Obviously, finding someone like Alexander-Arnold is not an easy task but there is a player who has a similar ability and who is reportedly closing in on a move to Anfield.
Like Alexander-Arnold, Wharton has the same technical traits and vision to be able to play through passes and bypass opposition lines with clever and deft balls into space for his teammates.
He's been linked with a number of clubs but it seems like Liverpool are the ones who could win the race for his signature.
According to Nicolo Schira Wharton is now getting closer to a move to Liverpool. The reporter claims Wharton has given his availability to join the Reds on a five-year contract.
Now, if that is true, that would be a huge coup for Liverpool. Wharton is the type of profile the club is missing and who would instantly elevate Slot's side.
He is also well-liked by Liverpool fans so signing him could win back the crowd in Hughes' favour. It's a win-win move for everyone involved.
And it's definitely something to keep a close eye on.
