Michael Edwards looks like he is finally getting what he has wanted for over a year now.

Liverpool's sporting director caused a furore when he left the club in 2022. It was an even bigger sensation when he returned to Liverpool two years later last year.

But one thing was different. Edwards was not just coming in to oversee Liverpool. He was coming into a new role.

Last year, Edwards was appointed as FSG's CEO of Football. The title was notable. Edwards is now working to oversee all of FSG's football operations.

For the moment, that involves Liverpool. But there is something he has wanted for over a year now that FSG are working hard to finally give him.

And it could soon be his.

When Edwards returned, he came back with the desire for FSG to implement their multi-club model. Given Edwards' swift return, we all expected FSG to already have a club in place.

But things have been a lot slower that end. They explore a move for Bordeaux last summer, given their dire financial situation which saw them demoted to France's amateur leagues.

In the end, FSG did not find that move feasible so stepped away.

After that Malaga had been explored as a possible destination. But again FSG stepped away from that deal. That's because there seems to be a better prospect on the table.

As we recently wrote, there are some reports suggesting FSG have already made an 'agreement in principle' to sign La Liga side Getafe.

This is as close as FSG have come to bringing the multi-club project to life over the course of the last 18 months. Getafe now seems like a genuine possibility and it will give Edwards the new responsibility he has craved.

If FSG can complete a deal before the end of the summer, there will be the opportunity to bring in new signings, appoint new staff and really commence the project.

It will be a long-term one for Edwards. Something that will take years to develop but in Getafe, he'd be overtaking a club with solid foundations, where the opportunity to grow is enormous.

When he accepted the role last year, this is exactly what he would have had in mind and it's great to see it finally getting closer becoming a reality.
