Liverpool wonderkid earns mega promotion to first-team
Liverpool are in crisis mode at the moment with another defeat in the Premier League.
It feels like the victory over Eintracht Frankfurt did nothing but paper over the cracks at Anfield. Arne Slot is slowly struggling to deal with the pressure of trying to build a new team and assembling a pretty much entirely new starting line-up compared to last season.
Against Brentford there weren't too many silver linings for the Reds.
Liverpool came up against all the same problems. Struggling to defend set-pieces, not being good enough in their build-up play and looking very vulnerable in the counter attacks.
At this stage of the season, it looks like the title has already slipped from their grasp. Liverpool will need a miracle to turn this around.
But while there was not too much to smile about, there was a promotion earned by a well-deserving young man.
Kieran Morrison has been in great form for Liverpool's academy over the last few months. He managed three assists in the UEFA Youth League against Eintracht Frankfurt in mid-week and he earned a well-deserved promotion.
The 18-year-old was with the travelling squad and included on the subs bench with the first-team against Brentford.
He didn't quite get on the pitch, with Rio Ngumoha being given the nod ahead of him but this is yet more confirmation of Morrison's growing status in the team.
The youngster has been knocking on the door for some time now. He's easily been the club's best player at U21 level, and he deserves more opportunities in senior competitions.
Given the fact that he was involved with the first-team in this game, it's also very likely he will be involved against Crystal Palace as well.
The League Cup game will be an opportunity for Slot to give chances to the club's fringe and young players. He usually rotates his team for these occasions and even with a run of bad results we can't see that changing.
Given the fact that Slot's options are pretty thin after injuries to Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak meanwhile Curtis Jones also picked up a knock in the game against Brentford.
So, there's a good chance for Morrison to be involved and perhaps even get a start given Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah will likely get a rest. So that leaves just Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa in attack.
