Liverpool line up SURPRISE agreement with ex-Arsenal star

Liverpool are lining up a signing and it's for an ex-Arsenal star. A surprise one but possibly what the Reds need.

Liverpool will return to the transfer market in 2026 as they continue their big rebuild. There are certainly areas they've got to address.

One of those is at centre-back. The Reds face an uncertain future there, with Ibrahima Konate's contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Marc Guehi was supposed to arrive as an elite, long-term option but Crystal Palace collapsed that deal right at the last minute. Guehi's contract will also expire this summer and it's expected Liverpool will try to sign him - but it's far from guaranteed.

Joe Gomez's future is also in doubt, with AC Milan hoping to sign him, while Giovanni Leoni's injury leaves Liverpool short for the rest of the season. We fully expect them to have a look at options this winter.

But centre-back isn't the only problem area. Liverpool are actually short up front, having sold Luis Diaz over the summer without replacing him. There really aren't many options on the wing and it appears the Reds see things that way, too.

Liverpool in for Serge Gnabry

Gazzetta Dello Sport reported to start the week that Liverpool were pushing to sign Serge Gnabry on a free transfer. Juventus also want the winger but they're being priced out by the Reds - or so says the report.

Now Bild have joined the party, also claiming that both clubs hope to sign Gnabry. His contract expires this summer, making him a bargain option for a club but is he really what Liverpool need?

We're certainly not sure about that. Gnabry is 30 and really not the kind of player the Reds usually push for. At the same time, he's a homegrown option, thanks to his development with Arsenal, who could cover both flanks.

And so it does somewhat make sense. Liverpool could fix a few problems by snapping him up, especially if he doesn't ask for too much money.

His €20m-a-year salary would surely be cut with any new contract, Liverpool or not, and if he's willing to take a squad role, perhaps it makes sense? We're still surprised by the reports but it might really be one to watch next year.
