Liverpool Transfer News: Put your money on Rio Ngumoha NOT 6-time champion
Liverpool: put your faith and your money on Rio Ngumoha and ignore the six-time champion. You'll otherwise wish you had.
Rio Ngumoha is an interesting case at Liverpool. The teenager clearly has all the talent you could hope for but he's currently in a squad that isn't performing.
That's a difficult spot to be in. In fact, we've seen plenty of Liverpool youngsters not get the opportunities they otherwise would have done because the timing was off.
Harvey Elliott is one of those. He was supposed to be a regular for the Reds back in 2022/23 but picked up an injury early on. By the time he returned, Liverpool were struggling for form and Jurgen Klopp didn't want to rely on a teenager to get them out of a bad patch.
Something similar is happening with Ngumoha. He's played well when put in this season and gets fans off their seats. At the same time, Arne Slot doesn't want to count on a 17-year-old when Liverpool are struggling to get wins.
But they can't lose faith in the teenager. Especially as it sounds as though they might be ready to head in a different direction.
Rio Ngumoha over Serge Gnabry
Bild is the latest to report that Liverpool are eyeing Serge Gnabry in 2026, following on from a report by Gazzetta Dello Sport. Both outlets tell the same story: Juventus want Gnabry but the Reds are making it financially difficult for them to win the race.
It's a strange move given Gnabry is now over 30 and would want a sizeable wage. It almost feels as though Liverpool want more experience and proven quality, rather than taking chances on players.
And it would certainly be a move that disrupts Ngumoha. The German plays on both flanks, after all, and would absolutely take minutes away from the younger player.
That would be a mistake. Nugmoha is one of the brightest talents to come through Liverpool in a long time and the kind of player who could go on to be a genuine superstar.
Gnabry will never be that. He's already reached his ceiling and is almost certainly in decline - and that ceiling never saw him climb above 26 league starts in a season.
So while there's some sense in moving for Gnabry, there's nowhere near enough to justify disrupting Ngumoha's progress. Not when he's only just getting started.
Bet on the younger player instead as the potential rewards are simply too good to ignore. Gnabry feels like settling for second best.
