Premier League star gives Arne Slot hope for PERFECT transfer move

Arne Slot's hopes of securing his dream transfer target have just been given a significant boost.

Liverpool have become inherently linked with different players over the years through transfer speculation. Florian Wirtz's move in the summer came off the back of several efforts to sign the player he joined Bayer Leverkusen's senior team in 2020. Eventually, the Reds got their way.

Likewise, managers often come into contact with different players at clubs whom they'd love to work with, although they rarely get their wishes due to how fast-paced turnover is within football networks.

Slot has been around the block a few different times in his limited career as a head coach, and one player that he's been desperate to work with is Micky Van De Ven - it might now be a possibility.

Discontent at Tottenham opens the door

In the past, Van De Ven has talked about how much Slot admires him, with the Dutchman having trying to sign him both when he was at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord. The Liverpool head coach might now be hedging his bets to make a successful approach this time around, given recent events.

The Tottenham captain is contracted until 2029, and even though his wage package right now makes his future on North London vulnerable, it looked for all the world as though he was untouchable.

But, we were given a glimpse into how the 24-year-old might be thinking right now, and it's hardly positive news for Spurs fans. Van De Ven and Djed Spence snubbed manager Thomas Frank on Saturday when they walked off the field, following a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea. It wasn't a good look.

Frank has since confirmed that the two have apologised to him for their actions, even though the situation was immediately dismissed as an issue by the Dane. He said: "Micky and Died came into my office yesterday and just said they wanted to say sorry for the situation. They didn't want it to look bad or any misconception hat you can get in this beautiful media world.

"There was no disrespect meant at all towards me, or the team. They were just frustrated with the performance from us and the booing during the game."

The blame has since been placed on Tottenham fans for the build up of negativity being shouted from the stands in recent weeks, but this all paints a particularly fascinating picture for exploitation.

Spurs created just 0.05xg against Chelsea, signifying major issues with their attack, and even though the deficit was limited to just one goal, the Lilywhites were bombarded by the Blues' waves of attack.

Van De Ven, however, is one of the few players that can hold their head up high this season, given he's helped his side to five clean sheets, while scoring six goals - he's their top scorer right now.

Just seven wins have come from 15 games this season, with four losses and four draws making up the rest. Even when you consider the context that they were 17th in the Premier League this season, their form still doesn't feel good enough. Something will need to change eventually.

Frank might not be given the campaign to imprint his style of play on the team, given the need for immediate success. But if he is, and Spurs continue to struggle, then Van De Ven's patience might not withstand in the summer. Liverpool's need for a centre-back and Slot's admiration of the player could easily result in an opportunity for sporting director Richard Hughes to take advantage of.

It would be an enormous scalp if a transfer is on the cards, and while there's nothing to suggest that anything could be possible in the near future, Tottenham will know that he won't be around forever.
