Liverpool have rejected a €55m offer for one of their stars. They'll need more than that to sell.

News broke on Monday evening that Napoli have tabled a €55m offer for Darwin Nunez. The Italian champions are after the striker this summer and have been strongly linked for weeks now.

Liverpool are open to selling him, too. Nunez hasn’t quite been the right fit, particularly under Arne Slot, and it’s felt by all that it’s time to move on.

Napoli are eager to get him signed and put an initial €50m on the table, with €5m in add-ons. They’re also offering Nunez around €5m per year.

Anfield Watch understands that this offer actually arrived early last week and was quickly rejected by Liverpool. They would want a substantial amount more than this in order to sell their no.9.

Darwin Nunez's future

Liverpool received an offer for Nunez back in January, of course. That came from Al-Hilal, as exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch.

That was also rejected - and was for a lot more than €55m. That was £70m but Liverpool didn’t want to sell Nunez mid-season while they challenged for honours.

The Reds now hope to secure something in that range again this summer, though there’s almost certainly an understanding that he’ll cost slightly less. Somewhere between the two bids, then, likely gets a deal done.

And so it’s interesting to read that Napoli have rejected an offer of €60m for Victor Osimhen. Gianluca Di Marzio reports it came from Galatasaray, who are eager to sign the Nigerian permanently.

Osimhen has a €75m release clause that Al-Nassr have agreed to pay. They’ll want a similar figure from the Turkish champions.

And if they do get that amount of money, it’ll almost certainly see their offer for Nunez rise. There’s an extra complication in that they’re also looking at Lorenzo Lucca - the cost of that deal may affect any talks with Liverpool.

For now, though, Nunez is staying put. At least until a bigger offer arrives.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
