The nine years of service that Mohamed Salah has given to Liverpool have been magnificent.

From a Premier League reject to one of the best players to ever grace English football, the Egyptian has a phenomenal amount to be proud of, not least the extremely long list of records he now holds.

Tying him down to a contract extension at the end of last season was incredibly important, since his class and consistent quality was paramount to help make last summer's mass transition go smoothly.

But despite his unrelenting form, the notion that will Salah remaining with us until 2027 is becoming increasingly less likely, since he might want one last hoorah before he hangs up his football boots.

Michael Olise at Bayern Munich is a rumoured target to replace him and if the Saudi Arabian clubs are still offering a large amount of money to sign him, then next season might be the time to cash in.

Salah might not retire at Liverpool

According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, 'the Egyptian striker could receive a millionaire offer from Saudi Arabia', which would no doubt make the player and Liverpool's recruitment team re-evaluate.

No one is actively suggesting that Salah should go anywhere anytime soon, especially since his physical fitness is far superior to his age, as illustrated by him delivering the best Premier League season in terms of goals and assists (47) at the age of 33, in his eighth season with Liverpool.

And before this current season has managed to get started, it feels wrong to be considering players' futures, especially Salah's, when he only renewed his contract five months ago.

But Liverpool will likely be having this conversation behind the scenes, not least because it will take a lot of effort to identify a player that has the potential to take over the mantle from our greatest winger.

The reason behind the two-year deal that was handed it out is that Salah and Virgil Van Dijk do not have long left at the top level, so their arguably monitored more regularly than young players, even though they're the most experienced players in the squad. Their ability will start to falter soon.

Pete O'Rourke at Football Insider considered this scenario, with Salah potentially moving elsewhere and Olise signing from Bayern to replace him, when speaking to the Inside Track Podcast.

He said: "You just don't know, you never know.

"With regards to Salah's future, a lot will depend upon Salah himself. Does he see himself staying at Liverpool beyond this two-year contract he's got now? Does he want to stay at the highest level of European football, or will he look for something else? There's no doubt Mo Salah will have a lot of options, whatever happens.

"We know the Saudi Pro League see him as a marquee signing, so that may be something he might consider in the next two years if he wants to do that."

Of course, the last point should be caveatted with the reality that the Saudi Public Investment Fund owners have been looking to bring the Egyptian to their clubs for the last two years at least, and since he's getting older, hopes of signing him might not be there anymore. We don't know.

But Liverpool will no doubt be looking at a similar situation to the one Crystal Palace considered this past summer with Marc Guehi. Is losing Salah on a free the best decision all parties could make?

Until we get closer to the end of the season, these questions will likely remain unanswered, but nothing should be ruled out, especially considering how important it is to end things the right way.
