Liverpool failed to sign Marc Guehi to end the summer transfer window. The chances of it now happening ASAP have grown, though.

Marc Guehi was supposed to be a Liverpool player this season. The Reds found an agreement with Crystal Palace and the player right at the end of the transfer window, with all looking well.

Only, Palace weren’t 100 per cent ready to say goodbye. That was purely because they failed to find an adequate replacement for their captain.

And so the deal collapsed right as the transfer window closed. Liverpool were left without the final piece to their summer puzzle - but they’re certainly not done there.

Guehi’s contract is still on the brink of expiring and Palace remain eager to get some sort of money for him. As things stand, they’ll lose him for nothing next July unless they complete a sale in January.

And with that in mind, we feel that chances of that deal being with Liverpool have taken a big step forward.

Liverpool could seriously reshape their centre-back options in January. Ibrahima Konate’s contract is also expiring next summer, of course, making it entirely possible that the club try and sell while they still can.

Of course, that’s not a decision they took with Trent Alexander-Arnold in 2025 but then they didn’t have a ready-made replacement for the Scouser. With Konaté they do, if they can agree a deal with Palace for Guehi.

E-Noticies reports that Real Madrid will try and force their hand, though. They’re hoping to sign Konaté in January and intend on making some sort of offer.

Finding an agreement with Real Madrid essentially guarantees an offer for Guehi and if that wasn’t enough, Milan Live reports that AC Milan will bid again for Joe Gomez.

They attempted to buy the centre-back as Liverpool were pushing for Guehi. The fact the latter took so long left no time for Milan to actually get Gomez, however.

January is a fresh start, though, and with two teams looking at Liverpool centre-backs, a move for Guehi looks absolutely inevitable.
