Liverpool are eager to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. He's certainly not their only major target right now, though.

Liverpool are in the midst of a major record-breaking push to sign Alexander Isak. The Swede has been their top target all year, even with a record-setting signing of Florian Wirtz dominating the start of the transfer window.

But Liverpool went into this summer wanting to retool the centre of their attack. Isak was always seen as the ultimate way to do just that - and their interest in him has been constant.

Diogo Jota: Thank you

Whether Newcastle United are open to that interest is another matter. They haven't been thus far but the last week appears to have changed things.

Isak isn't training with the club and is instead off in Spain on his own. It fuels speculation that Newcastle are willing to move him on and if that is the case, Liverpool will sign him.

But even with a British transfer record on the horizon, Isak isn't the only deal Liverpool are pushing for.

Liverpool want Marc Guehi

The Mirror reports that Liverpool remain interested in Marc Guehi and are still hoping to sign him. The problem with this one is Crystal Palace's asking price.

They want £40m for Guehi, their captain, despite the fact his contract expires in a year. Liverpool feel that's too high given he could join for free next summer.

But it's a difficult one. Liverpool are in a similar situation themselves as Ibrahima Konate's contract expires in 2026 and he's not going to renew it.

Real Madrid want to sign him up but the Reds aren't willing to sanction a cut-price fee. They'd still want over £45m to let him leave early.

Now, we imagine those prices are linked. Liverpool would sign Guehi at Palace's price if Real Madrid paid up for Konate. The valuations are just too similar for that not to be the case.

So there's still real potential for movement here but it relies on a trigger. Either Palace drop their price or Real Madrid pay up.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
