SIGNIFICANT moment in high-profile Liverpool transfer battle
There was a seemingly significant moment in Crystal Palace vs Liverpool. One that appears to paint a picture for the Reds' transfer battle.
Liverpool were eager to sign Marc Guehi at the end of the summer transfer window but things fell apart. The Reds pushed and pushed, agreeing just about everything, only for Crystal Palace to pull the plug at the end.
But that doesn’t mean Liverpool will give up. Guehi’s contract expires at the end of the season and they’ll certainly be involved in some sort of negotiations.

Only this time, there will be more competition for the centre-back. Liverpool hoped to get ahead of the competition by paying for Guehi, getting an extra year and guaranteed success for their money.
That didn’t quite work out, however, and now other clubs are strongly linked with a move for the defender. Real Madrid are among them, and Manchester City, too.
It’s led to some reports claiming Liverpool are no longer leading the race. In fact, one by Football Insider claimed Guehi privately blamed the Reds for the deal collapsing.
That would suggest he’s actually at odds with the club that hopes to sign him. Only, a moment in Saturday’s game paints a different picture.
Marc Guehi's celebration
When Ismaila Sarr scored to put the Eagles ahead at Selhurst Park, the team ran with him to celebrate. Except Guehi, that is, who simply jogged back to position.
Now, we’ve heard of not celebrating against your former club but not celebrating against one you nearly signed for? At the very least, it comes across as Geuhi not wanting to celebrate against a team he has plenty of respect for.
Not one he’s blaming for a ruined transfer and that he doesn’t want to join anymore, in other words. There certainly doesn’t appear to be any mass negative feeling from the defender.
We fully expect Liverpool to be back in for Guehi, possibly in January after Giovanni Leoni’s injury. His lack of celebration against the Reds tells us he’s there to be talked to - someone who holds respect for Liverpool after his summer talks.
And that’s certainly significant in wake of the reports that he holds a grudge against them.
