Liverpool star decides to delay Anfield exit

One Liverpool star will delay his calls for an Anfield exit. They will still arrive, however.

This is probably the most difficult period in Liverpool's recent history as they attempt to handle the tragic death of Diogo Jota. The weight of it all will sit on the club for a long time to come and there's absolutely no chance of making sense of it.

Liverpool start their pre-season on Tuesday, though. They'll attempt to move forward as a unit, even if that's going to be incredibly tough to do.

But there are also more transfers to happen. This isn't a group that will stay together, in all likelihood, and we certainly don't envy Richard Hughes and co. who will try to strike business deals and handle players' futures.

Luis Diaz is one of those under the spotlight. Reports broke on Monday that he's hoping to leave the club, with both Bayern Munich and Barcelona hoping to sign him.

Luis Diaz to delay exit

Mundo Deportivo now reports that Luis Diaz will not ask for an exit for a while. He is still hoping to leave Liverpool this summer but understands that this is not the time to ask for a transfer request.

And it highlights the difficult nature of things right now. Barcelona will reportedly hold on off pushing for Diaz, too, and could wait until August before actually making things happen.

Again, though, we're not sure how Liverpool handle all this. How do you comfortably turn around and ask a player to leave? How do you go about preparing for the new season, building a new squad, when it's not the focus at the club?

It's going to be a tough summer and one that requires a lot of patience. There will be some incredibly emotional decisions and hopefully, decisions made as a group.

But no one involved has any experience handling a situation like this. All we can really offer as fans is patience - and we'll certainly be giving that.

The first moment for that comes on Tuesday as Liverpool decide whether to play their scheduled pre-season friendly against Preston North End this weekend. We're sure everyone would understand if the players wanted to cancel that.

As Diaz is reportedly recognising, everything requires patience right now. And that's going to be the case for a long time to come.
