Liverpool given ENORMOUS Ibrahima Konate contract update

Liverpool have found themselves with an enormous Ibrahima Konate contract boost. It's exactly what the Reds needed.

Ibrahima Konate's contract will expire at the end of the season as things stand. The Frenchman has been in some sort of talks with Liverpool for around a year now - but we're still to see anything signed.

There's no question that Liverpool do want to keep Konate. The centre-back situation is messy right now and the 26-year-old is unquestionably the best person to add some solidity.

He's coming into his prime, completely capable of playing at the elite level and required absolutely no bedding in. What more could Liverpool need?

The problem is that other clubs would also like Konate and are free to sign him next year. Real Madrid tops that list, having been linked with him all year long.

But recent reports have been positive, suggesting Liverpool feel they could get a deal done here. And now a new claim appears to be a massive update to that effect.

Ibrahima Konate vs Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi is also out of contract in 2026. Liverpool did try to get ahead of that by signing him at the end of the summer transfer window, but Crystal Palace weren't in the right position to let go.

Now other clubs are lining up to sign him, with Bayern Munich eager to be one of them. However, Christian Falk claims Bayern view Real Madrid as 'their biggest competitor' for Guehi.

That's significant, given it's highly unlikely that Real Madrid push for both Guehi and Konate. If the Palace captain is a major target for them, it suggests Konate isn't.

Or at least, he's not their priority right now. Perhaps that's because they prefer Guehi, or maybe it's because they're getting the wrong signals from Konate. Either way, it's fantastic news for Liverpool.

Real Madrid feel like the only other destination for Konate right now. They're the ones who could turn his head enough to rule out a new deal at Anfield.

If they're truly going all-out for Guehi, that's an enormous sign that Konate's future is with Liverpool.
