Liverpool are reportedly convinced that Real Madrid have turned the head of one Red. The club now need to decide what to do.

Liverpool just can’t escape Real Madrid. Los Blancos are either taking away transfer targets or they’re taking away players - as seen by Trent Alexander-Arnold joining them this summer.

But really, the majority of their team right now were once at least linked with Liverpool. Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Aurelian Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao...

We’re probably forgetting some.

And it seems the problem might be getting even worse. It’s time for another Liverpool player to get their head turned and it’s creating a difficult situation on Merseyside.

Ibrahima Konate wants Real Madrid move

Ibrahima Konate is now in the final year of his contract. He can leave for free next July and agree terms with a non-English club from January 1st.

It’s the same situation we experienced threefold last season. That saw Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk battle with Liverpool over contract terms.

The latter two did re-sign, but Alexander-Arnold left, giving the impression he never really wanted to stay. Now we’re back there.

Marca reports that Liverpool are now ‘convinced’ that Konate wants to join Real Madrid. That creates a problem as they’re willing to wait for the Frenchman, meaning the Reds get nothing for him.

Liverpool, then, will continue to try and seal a new long-term contract with Konate but they’re also open to selling. €50m has been quoted in several places as the asking price, though it is steep for one year of football.

Real Madrid, though, might be a bit more desperate than usual. Their season was trophyless, while they were utterly embarrassed by Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup.

A big addition, particularly in defence, could be exactly what they’re after. Konate would be the one - they can’t sign another centre-back and the Frenchman next summer after already signing Dean Huijsen this summer.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
