This one won't come cheap, though. Ekitike will cost Liverpool around €91m, with Ben Jacobs explaining this is £61m upfront and then a further £10m in add-ons.

But to be fair, they're getting an incredible talent for that money. Ekitike is not the finished article and no one should expect that, however his talent is undeniable.

A tall, technically-gifted striker, the Frenchman can lead the line or drift into space for others. He is, on paper, exactly what Liverpool want alongside Mo Salah and Florian Wirtz.

So that's why the money is being spent there. Ekitike has all the potential in the world and while we did just go through this unsuccessfully with Darwin Nunez, he might develop into the dream forward.

That's the risk Liverpool will take, anyway.

Hugo Ekitike to link up with Liverpool

Fabrice Hawkins reports that Ekitike will now complete a deal with Liverpool and then join the team on their 'Japan tour'.

"Green light for Hugo Ekitike," he writes on Twitter. "He can travel to Liverpool for the medical. Total agreement between Frankfurt and Liverpool. Contract until 2031.

"He will join the team in Japan for the tour."

Now, Liverpool are currently on a tour of Asia and will be in Japan next week. They're currently in Hong Kong, where they'll play against AC Milan at the newly-opened Kai Tak Sports Park on July 26th.

Then it's onto Japan. Liverpool are scheduled to face Yokohama on July 20th - there's half a chance that Ekitike features in that game, then.

It'll likely depend on just how quickly he's able to get out to Japan. It does appear that might be his non-competitive debut in Red, though.

If not, it'll be against Athletic Club on August 4th. Time to get excited, then - there's not long to wait.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
