Every year, Liverpool are reportedly interested in a lot of different targets, but not all of them end up being available, and not every transfer happens. But the club's interest often remains.

Shortlists are created for each position in the squad and different players will be added and crossed off throughout each season, so the recruitment team has a full understanding of the market.

In terms of the defensive ranks, plenty of centre-backs will have been looked at over the past few years, because Virgil Van Dijk will eventually retire and until then, he will need players to partner him.

So it should not come as a surprise that one of Liverpool's current transfer links is actually a player that has been on the end of the club's interest for quite some time. Perhaps now is the time to move.

Beraldo hands in PSG transfer request

Liverpool were interested in Lucas Beraldo in 2023 before he made the switch to from São Paulo to Paris Saint Germain in January 2024, but the Brazilian centre-back decided to move to France.

He was said to have been scouted 'a number of times' and the Reds' interest involved the club 'paying an increasingly close eye' on his development. At the time, he was just 19 years old.

But less than two years later, it appears as though his time in the French capital might be coming to an end, as he has handed in a transfer request to leave this summer, according to L'Equipe.

PSG are said to have agreed to part ways with him if the right conditions can be met for a move.

Now still just 21 years old, the Brazilian defender is a promising talent, having played regular minutes across the last two seasons for PSG. His main strengths are long-balls and ground duels and the Reds might feel it's worth taking a punt on him if a reasonable fee can be agreed to finally sign him.

According to FootballTransfers.com, he is worth €29.1m (£25.3m) which would certainly be tempting for Liverpool, given the need for a new defender since Jarrel Quansah moved to Leverkusen.

The only concern is that Beraldo's reasoning for putting in a transfer request is based on his perceived lack of minutes as a starting player. He was involved throughout the Club World Cup this summer, but it is believed that he was used primarily because William Pacho was unavailable.

Liverpool would need to guarantee him some minutes, and create a pathway for him to receive the game time that he is looking for, but competition in the defensive ranks would likely be welcomed.

As such, we will have to see what happens, but he is likely to still be on Liverpool's radar and he has a lot of potential still be deliver on. In the last six weeks of the summer, anything is possible.
