Fabrizio Romano has confirmed our story from earlier today. Liverpool didn't take long to decide on the €50m proposal.

Anfield Watch reported on Tuesday that Liverpool had rejected an offer from Napoli for Darwin Nunez. The Serie A champions hope to sign the striker this summer and have him at the top of their shortlist.

The offer was for around €50m with another €5m there in add-ons. Nunez would earn around €5m per year with Napoli, too.

But Liverpool said no. This offer became public knowledge on Monday evening but was actually submitted early last week and was quickly rejected.

Liverpool are willing to sell Nunez this summer but won't do so at any price. They plainly believe that there's more to be gained in a fee for their no.9 and will hold out for that.

It comes after the Reds rejected an offer for Nunez from Al-Hilal back in January. That offer was for around £70m but Liverpool didn't want to sell mid-season, as exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch.

Romano confirms rejected offer

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool rejected the offer from Napoli. Talking on his YouTube channel, he claims the Italians will try again to sign Nunez.

He suggests they knew Liverpool would reject the offer and that it was merely a starting point. Maybe they got lucky, maybe the Reds negotiated it.

In the end, neither happened. Liverpool simply said no and it’s up to Napoli to try and convince the Reds to accept.

So as things stand, Nunez will remain at Anfield and train with team for pre-season. No deal has been found and from the sounds of it, there’s a little ways to go before one can be found.

Certainly, this is one to watch for the summer.

Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
