Dutch star on Liverpool's radar after SUCCESSFUL audition

Liverpool have a Dutch star to consider after he excelled in his audition in front of Arne Slot.

It's long been a tradition that the Reds look at those who find a way to cope with the test of playing in front of a packed out Anfield and deliver a performance to remember in defying Liverpool's big stars.

When the team played Inter Milan at the San Siro earlier this season, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes made a point of joining the team and getting a first-hand look at the major Italian talents.

It's entirely possible that Liverpool could look back to another performance that went awry for them.

PSV could be Liverpool's hunting ground

When the Dutch giants came to Anfield in the Champions League back in November and comprehensively won 4-1, one of the main big stars on show was defender Yarek Gasiorowski.

The 20-year-old is still in his main breakout season, despite featuring for Valencia for two years before he moved to the Netherlands. He's on track to play more minutes in this campaign than all three of his previous first-team outings combined. He's finally getting a more prominent role.

In that famous performances against Liverpool, we won his only tackles and all three duels he contested, alongside making eight clearances, three blocks, two recoveries and five sprints.

Of course, the Reds had an off night and couldn't make their chances count, squandering 2.5xg to only score once, compared to four goals that came from PSV's 2.17xg created. But that criticism would do players like Gasiorowski a disservice. His efforts really thwarted Arne Slot's game plan.

It was really impressive at the time to see a young player deliver such an accomplished performance, and Liverpool go do little wrong by considering how as a candidate to bolster the defence in future.

A report in the Daily Mail calls the Spaniard one of his country's most 'intriguing' prospects, and that's exactly how he came across in that display at Anfield. He was somewhat of an unknown going into the game, and yet he dealt with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike really well.

Liverpool have been a lot better in other games this season than they were against PSV, and you feel as though things could've been different on another night, but any player that holds up well against the quality that the Reds possess and the hostile atmosphere at Anfield, deserves to be praised.

Other defensive targets might be looked at first, but Gasiorowski is a serious talent.
