Arne Slot MASTERCLASS lands Liverpool a superstar
Arne Slot has worked his magic once again and now Liverpool are landing a superstar talent. Is there anything he can't do?
Replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool was one of the more impossible jobs a manager could take on. Not only were you replacing their most successful manager in decades and one of the best on the planet, Klopp was also the effective face of the club.
No one could have done a better job here than Arne Slot. The Dutchman jumped into the role and won the Premier League title with what was essentially Klopp's squad (plus a barely-used Federico Chiesa).
That success immediately propelled Slot's reputation in the game and we're seeing it to great effect this summer. Slot was instrumental in persuading Florian Wirtz to join Liverpool, for instance.
And now, according to reports, he's done it again.

Arne Slot convinces Hugo Ekitike
ESPN reports that Hugo Ekitike agreed to join Liverpool after a zoom meeting with Slot. The striker came out of that meeting convinced he should head to the Reds.
There's also a claim here that Ekitike began talks with Liverpool back in March, something Anfield Watch exclusively revealed back in early April.
Slot 'detailed his need for a mobile and dynamic No.9 who could combine brilliance on the ball with tenacity and intelligence off it'. A source tells ESPN that it was a 'masterclass' by the Dutchman, leaving Ekitike prioritising a move to Liverpool.
This was something we fall feared Liverpool would lose once Klopp left. Having a manager/head coach who inspires players to join the club, who can carry the aura of a leader for winners - it's difficult to find.
Liverpool had that all with the German and used it to great effect. The fact they've found it again with Slot is an enormous win for everyone involved in the hiring process.
Ekitike is now expected to complete a medical on Tuesday before signing for Liverpool. From there, he'll head out to Hong Kong to link up with his new teammates.

It's a coup for Liverpool, who are getting a genuine superstar talent and someone who could well become one of the world's best forwards. Slot's skill to inspire players is a massive reason for that.
Rest in peace, Diogo Jota.
