Liverpool will consult their players over a major pre-season decision. The Reds are now due back on Tuesday.

Some Liverpool players were set to report to training on Friday, though that was never going to happen after Diogo Jota's tragic death. The club quickly delayed pre-season to Monday.

But it's been delayed once again. Liverpool won't welcome players back until Tuesday at the earliest, giving their stars an extra day to process what's been an unbelievably difficult time.

The Liverpool Echo reports the Tuesday start, though no one will have any idea what training actually looks like. That's going to be true for the entire summer, in fact.

A series of difficult decisions now face the Reds. The first one will be made this week after consultation with the players.

Liverpool to consult players over friendly

The Echo's report also mentions that Liverpool will consult with players and staff over the proposed friendly with Preston North End next week. That's currently scheduled for July 13th.

But it's unknown whether that goes ahead. If the players collectively decide they can't play a football match so soon, it will be cancelled.

Preston apparently have a tribute planned if the match does go ahead. Again, we'll have to wait and see what comes of training this week to know for sure.

Preston remain in contact with Liverpool right now over the friendly.

But this is just decision no.1. Liverpool have a pre-season tour of Asia planned and in the books, with obligations all over the place there.

It's difficult to say that it's definitely going ahead, though. In fact, it seems like an awful lot to ask of players just a few weeks after the event.

This is all remarkably delicate and no one involved in the decision making has any experience with it. All we can really offer back as fans is patience and understanding - and that goes for the entire season.
