Liverpool threaten entire season with STAGGERING decision

Liverpool are making a staggering decision that simply threatens their entire season. It's not too late to change.

Liverpool's season has not gone to plan - that much is clear. The Reds spent lavishly in the summer to try and improve on a title-winning team and while some room for adjustment was there, it wasn't supposed to go like this.

Things were okay-ish at the start of the campaign, though, as Liverpool won consistently. None of those wins were particularly easy but wins they were.

Then things took a turn as Crystal Palace beat them in September, ending a winning run to start the season. Liverpool have won just five Premier League matches since then and none since December 27th.

A run of form after the Palace defeat was the worst Liverpool have endured since the 1950s. And yet, the Reds are set to stick with things as they are.

Liverpool to ignore transfer window

We are currently in a transfer window and have been for nearly four weeks. Still, Liverpool have not made any senior moves.

That's despite the fact that they lost Giovanni Leoni for the season early on. Conor Bradley has since been ruled out for the campaign since then, while Alexander Isak is out until at least March.

But it's the defence that should be the focus here. Joe Gomez is now Liverpool's principal backup at centre-back and right-back. This being a player who struggled for fitness at the start of the season and actually went off injured in the Bournemouth defeat this weekend.

The Athletic reports, however, that there are zero plans to sign a new defender before the window shuts. It's seen as a 'short-term fix' and not one that Liverpool want to make.

That is a mistake. It's not a short-term fix at all - it's an investment into the long-term future because as things stand, Liverpool will not qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Not only is the team struggling but the lack of numbers at the back risk making things even more difficult to correct. There's also just the fact that Liverpool likely need to invest at centre-back anyway this summer as Ibrahima Konate is out of contract and they nearly sold Gomez to AC Milan back in the summer.

Moving the defensive rebuild forward in order to boost numbers for the season, ease pressure on Arne Slot and inject fresh ideas into the team seems like an easy win. Instead, Liverpool will just stick with what they've got - which isn't much.

And the way things are going, that decision puts the entire season at risk.
