Liverpool star OPENS door to January exit
A Liverpool star has opened the door to exit the club in January.
The Reds' squad is very thin already, so they can't really afford to lose more players. But according to a recent report, one player is open to leaving the club this month.
Right now, Arne Slot is struggling to put together a balanced and coherent squad. He's missing a lot of his key players and he's also struggling because of the small team that he has at his disposal.
We thought Jurgen Klopp preferred to deploy a 'small squad.' Well Slot's preference seems to be even smaller.
Slot rotates less than Klopp and tends to use around 15-16 players at maximum on a regular basis.
This works if everyone is fit and available and in top shape. However, we are starting to find out that it's not always the case.
Liverpool's poor run of form has coincided with a number of injuries that have reduced Slot's squad to the bare bones.
Now it could be cut to an even smaller size because Nicolo Schira is reporting that Federico Chiesa has opened the door for him to return to the Serie A.
The report claims that Juventus, Roma and Napoli are all interested in the Italian forward and that Liverpool have set a price tag of 12-15m Euros on him.
This would be around the same fee that they paid for his services in the summer of 2024. But while financially the move might make sense, it would not make sense for Liverpool to sell him because he is desperately needed right now.
Without Chiesa, Liverpool are left without a proper no.9 back-up option behind Hugo Ekitike.
Right now, Alexander Isak is injured for the considerable future. Unless, Liverpool intend to buy another attacker, they simply cannot let Chiesa go.
To do that would leave Slot having to use either Will Wright or Jayden Danns from the academy. They are exciting talents and are very highly rated.
However, are they ready to step into such big shoes and play week in, week out? The answer to that question is moot. You won't find out until you throw them in at the deep-end.
The question then becomes is that really what you want to do when you're still competing for a Champions League spot in the Premier League?
The answer remains to be told.
