An exciting duo at Liverpool now look destined to follow Rio Ngumoha's path.

That goal has been a long time coming. Ngumoha has been working hard for over a year to make that happen.

We could see it brewing in pre-season when he made five goal contributions in five games. We could see the beginnings of something special when Ngumoha was promoted to the U21s almost immediately after he joined, and then when he was called-up to train with the first team.

It has been a well-planned out path. Liverpool have been creating the environment for Ngumoha to succeed and to make his mark in the first team for the last 12 months.

This is why he chose to leave Chelsea back in the summer of 2024, and why he was persuaded by Liverpool's promise and enticing offer.

Liverpool don't just want one Ngumoha. The academy's mission is to produce more and more young players who can help Arne Slot's first team.

And there are two players who have seemingly been earmarked to follow Ngumoha's trajectory, having earned a promotion into the club's U21 side.

Erik Farkas and Joshua Abe are two players we have written a lot about. You can check out our profile on 16-year-old Farkas here, and our profile on 15-year-old Abe, here.

The two youngsters are regarded as exciting talents at international level. Farkas recently registered two assists in his first two starts for England's U17 side. Abe scored twice in two games during his debut for England's U16 national team.

At Liverpool, they have both been training with the club's U18 side, but now they've earned a promotion to an even higher level.

On Saturday, Farkas and Abe were handed their debuts for the club's U21 side in a friendly against Bolton Wanderers.

Farkas started the game in the no.10 role and combined with Jayden Danns to provide an assist for Kaide Gordon's opener.

Abe started the game on the left-wing and looked lively, often picking up excellent positions and was unlucky not to score with a well-take shot just outside the penalty area.

Both youngsters were given 45 minutes, and both played their role in Liverpool taking a 3-0 lead at half-time.

The game ultimately finished 4-1, with Bolton finding their way back into it in the second-half, once Farkas, Abe and Danns had all been substituted.

Why Abe and Farkas will follow Ngumoha's path

Liverpool are very aware of the exciting talents they have in Abe and Farkas. The duo are regarded as the two best players to have emerged from the academy at this level since Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones - both of whom became pivotal players for the first team.

Now, at just barely 16-years-old, Farkas is already playing with the U21s. Abe is even younger, having only turned 15-years-old in the summer.

The club's academy always does its best to create a pathway into the first team for their most talented players. This is what they did with Ngumoha and it's clear that the plan is the same with Farkas and Abe.

That's why they've already been exposed to U21 football despite being so young. The next step now is the first team. And that won't be far away.
