Liverpool open ‘fresh talks’ to end £35m star’s SUFFERING
Liverpool might not be bringing in any stars during the winter transfer window, but they are still keen to sort a lot of other business out.
Reds fans are not expecting too much business before the deadline passes, with the only piece of business in terms of incomings expected to be Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, although that is for the summer anyway.
However, there could still be a few players on the move or potentially still to return, with a few star's futures very much up in the air.
Liverpool are keen to sort things out swiftly too with just hours left until the window slams shut, and they have just opened talks to resolve one big issue that appears rather complex.
Liverpool open talks with Aston Villa over Harvey Elliott's loan
Liverpool let a lot of stars go in the summer, with one of the biggest being Harvey Elliott to Aston Villa in a deal that looked to be excellent for all parties.
But instead, it has turned into a bit of a nightmare, with Elliott not in Unai Emery's plans and being excluded from the squad on multiple occasions to avoid triggering his obligation-to-buy clause should he feature 10 times for them.
But now, according to the Daily Mail, the two clubs have opened 'fresh talks' to try and sort out this issue, as Elliott being unable to play does not benefit either of them.
They report that Aston Villa are hoping to change the clause in the deal by either increasing the number of games Elliott needs to play to make it permanent or change it to an option to buy rather than obligation.
£35m is the fee that was agreed in the summer if the deal does become permanent, but it is unlikely that he departs Liverpool for good for that price unless he really turns things around in the remaining few months.
Harvey Elliott does not have a Liverpool future under Arne Slot
Despite having a lot of quality, Elliott does not quite fit into Arne Slot's Liverpool system due to the ability of players ahead of him, meaning that a return to Anfield would only be temporary anyway.
That is unless Slot is sacked, with the Englishman potentially needing a managerial change if he is to reignite his Reds career.
For now, his clause needs to be changed so that he can play as much football as possible, with his future being something they can decide upon for good in the summer instead.
