Liverpool now waiting on MASSIVE transfer approval

Liverpool will now be waiting on approval for a massive transfer. This was absolutely not the plan going into this season.

The January transfer window is nearly here and Liverpool are at work. They need to try and 'fix' this squad after a difficult start to the season.

The Reds spent an enormous amount over the summer, after all. They twice broke their transfer record while also spending record amount at both full-back positions. And that doesn't even mention the Β£80m spent on Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool, then, thought they were building a competitive squad. That doesn't appear to be the case and if they're to chase any honours this season, they'll need to get to work.

However, any plans they had for January may have changed with Saturday's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The club will need to position themselves for something drastic.

Alexander Isak's injury

Alexander Isak, the British record signing, scored a great opener against Spurs. In doing so, however, he appears to have received a bad injury.

Micky van de Ven clattered into him as he took his shot, leaving Isak in a heap on the floor. He was visibly in intense pain afterwards and played no further part.

Reports now suggest that Isak is in a bad way. The Athletic claims Liverpool are pessimistic, fearing a 'serious' lower leg injury.

That would be an enormous blow. Isak was the star summer signing and one who, due to fitness concerns, hasn't got going for Liverpool. He's played a meagre 504 Premier League minutes but could well be out for the season.

If that's the case, Liverpool will have the approval to find a replacement - there's no question about that. They'd be left without any backup for Hugo Ekitike, let alone the fact they'd be down one major, experienced player.

The Reds would simply need to act in some way. Even if someone like Mo Salah were to cover the middle, it would leave them short on the right.

A transfer would have to happen and Isak being confirmed with a long-term injury would give them approval for that.
