Liverpool maintain 'regular contact' whilst chasing transfer agreement

Liverpool carried out an overhaul of their Premier League winning squad last summer, but there is still plenty of squad building to be done.

The Reds narrowly missed out on an eighth summer signing when a deal for Marc Guehi collapsed on deadline day, but it isn’t just the defence Arne Slot wants to strengthen.

Several attacking options have been discussed for Liverpool in January, owing partly to the leg break suffered by Alexander Isak.

The left side of the Reds’ attack is particularly thin, with no real replacement being signed when Luis Diaz departed the club last summer, but an update has just been given on one of Liverpool’s priority targets for the position.

Liverpool in regular contact with long-time target

According to a new report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool remain in regular contact with PSG forward Bradley Barcola, who has been on the team’s radar for a while.

The Frenchman’s future in Paris is in doubt and the report states that, although negotiations are underway for a new contract, the 23-year-old could be available in the summer.

PSG have reportedly ruled out a move in January but Liverpool, alongside Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, all remain interested.

The forward is valued at €69.6 million (£60m) by FootballTransfers and his current deal runs until 2028.

Will Liverpool sign Barcola?

The Reds’ interest in Barcola has carried over from last summer, and Liverpool will be ready to pounce if he does become available.

Barcola has started on the bench for five of PSG’s last six league games, being an unused substitute twice.

If Luis Enrique continues to overlook the 23-year-old then he may well decide his future lies elsewhere, and that is when Liverpool will have their opportunity.

Although PSG are reluctant to sell in winter, the Reds may still be tempted to test their resolve and could convince Barcola with a guaranteed spot in Slot’s XI.

Cody Gakpo and, on occasion, Rio Ngumoha have shared the left-wing role at Liverpool this season, and Richard Hughes will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Barcola’s situation to capitalise if the Frenchman does become available.
