Liverpool in talks to sign the next Fabinho

Liverpool might finally be signing their next Fabinho.

There was a time when the Reds' midfield wasn't porous. A time when Liverpool were built with solid foundations. Mostly, it was thanks to Fabinho.

The Brazilian was a mastermind at keeping his position, at being alert to danger and imposing control in the middle of the park.

Fabinho allowed Jordan Henderson, Giorginio Wijnaldum and others to roam ahead of him and provide the intense pressing Jurgen Klopp's system needed.

He covered a lot of space, controlled possession and was just extremely reliable. At his peak, he was one of the best holding midfielders on the planet.

And even though it's been over three years since he left, Liverpool have yet to replace him.

Liverpool's attempts to replace Fabinho

It all started with Aurelien Tchouameni. The then AS Monaco midfielder felt like the perfect Fabinho replacement. He came from the same club as the Brazilian.

It was all written in the stars. But then Real Madrid came along and took him.

Moises Caicedo was next. We all know how that ended. The same was true for Romeo Lavia.

Martin Zubimendi preferred to stay in the mountains of San Sebastian before eventually joining Arsenal.

And well, that has been that.

Liverpool's pursuit of a holding midfielder is still very much a work in progress. But a solution might have been found, with the Reds apparently already in talks to sign an ideal player.

Liverpool in talks to sign Aleksandar Stankovic

TEAMtalk are reporting that during the talks with Curtis Jones and Inter Milan, Liverpool made an enquiry to bring in Aleksandar Stankovic.

The report claims that Liverpool entered talks with Inter over the midfielder to get some initial information about him.

It adds that Liverpool are expected to assess their midfield options in 2027 and Stankovic remains firmly on their radar, with the club's hierarchy continuing to monitor his progress.

Well, that's exciting.

Stankovic is a holding midfielder and he is a very talented player, who has caught the eye at Inter recently after a successful loan in Belgium.

His father Dejan was also a brilliant midfielder who won the Champions League with Inter, so Aleksandar is a player to keep a close eye on.
