Liverpool have a golden chance to sign NEXT Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate's future remains uncertain at Liverpool and the Reds should be assessing their options at the moment.

Konate has less than a year left on his contract and at this moment in time he is no closer to extending his stay at Anfield. With Real Madrid sniffing around for his services, this is beginning to feel like deja vu.

Liverpool have to be prepared to lose Konate. Part of the reason they wanted to sign and still want to sign Marc Guehi must be with the motivation to replace him.

But Guehi alone is not enough to give the Reds sufficient depth. They need more and this is why they should target a Konate regen emerging at Rennes in the January transfer window.

With Giovanni Leoni's injury, Liverpool need to add more depth anyway. Starting as early as January. Some have speculated that this could see the Reds move for Guehi.

But what's the point of spending millions when Liverpool can just sign him on a free contract in six months?

It would make more sense to sign someone else who the Reds will need to spend money on anyway. And who better for that role than another generational French defender.

Over the last few years, Rennes have produced an incredible amount of elite players from their academy. From Ousmane Dembele to Eduardo Camavinga and Desire Doue.

The latest of these young talents appears to be Jeremy Jacquet. Only 20-years-old, Jacquet is already a first-team player at Rennes and he has been catching the eye with his recent performances.

Extremely tall with long legs, Jacquet is capable of covering a lot of ground. He reads the game with distinction and he's also very comfortable on the ball.

Quick with a great understanding for the game, he's the perfect package to replace Konate.

In fact, there are shades of the current Liverpool defender in his style of play. That is why the Reds must look to make a move for him in the January window.

If Konate is leaving, Jacquet is the best replacement for the Frenchman.

And this January presents a golden chance with Liverpool already needing to buy a centre-back.
