Liverpool are signing another world-class player this summer as he looks to finally link-up with Arne Slot's squad.

This is the summer of Richard Hughes. Forget the summer of 66, who cares what he who shall not be named is doing in North America wearing that pale white kit of Real Madrid.

All the focus is on an exciting summer at Anfield. A summer that will see Liverpool transform into a serious team. A team that will be competing for the league title for years and years to come.

Hughes is building a dynasty for Arne Slot. He's secured the signatures of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. Now the Reds are also on the verge of announcing a deal for Milos Kerkez.

The trio alone represents a significant boost of Liverpool's powers. But the Reds will not be done there. They are planning on bringing in more players.

Alexander Isak is the dream target for the no.9 role, meanwhile a centre-back will also be targeted. Whether the Reds can pull those deals off remains to be seen.

However, as well as all the names and signings we've spoken about, there is one player who everyone has sort of just forgotten about, even though he's meant to be joining the club this summer as well.

We're talking about Giorgi Mamardashvili of course. Liverpool agreed a deal to sign him from Valencia last summer, and he is expected to join the first team for pre-season this summer.

Mamardashvili is someone many people are probably not as excited as they should be at him arriving at the club. On the surface, maybe it's not that exciting when a player arrives, who will realistically only be second choice.

However, Mamardashvili is different. He's not only coming in as a second choice goalkeeper. He's joining to compete for the no.1 spot alongside Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian is the best goalkeeper in the world, but Mamardashvili is not far away from that title either. He's world-class and his nomination for the Ballon d'Or last year and the Golden Glove award was proof of that.

When Anfield Watch spoke to someone who knows him well in Mikha Gabechava, he had already suggested Mamardashvili is one of the best in the world.

"I strongly believe that his mentality played a key role in his development - he never doubted himself, and even after all the harsh mistakes at the beginning of his career, he stayed strong, never lost his motivation, and worked tirelessly to become one of the best in the world," he said.

We are in full agreement with Gabechava on this. Mamardashvili is a brilliant shot-stopper and he is the future of Liverpool alongside fellow new arrival Armin Pecsi.

Alisson won't be around forever and the arrival of a world-class goalkeeper who is already being lined-up to replace him in the future is an exciting prospect.

The two of them pushing each other with Pecsi there for extra competition is going to be elevate Liverpool's goalkeeping department.

That's why we can't wait to see Mamardashvili link-up with the Reds. It's going to be an exciting time.
