A 40-goal forward at Liverpool has penned a brand new deal that is a significant landmark for his career.

There's a lot of attacking talent at Arne Slot's disposal. The problem this season has mostly been the fact that a lot of them are not available.

Alexander Isak arrived at Anfield not fully fit and has picked up injuries as well that have thwarted his progress.

Behind him in the pecking order, Jayden Danns has suffered a lot of injuries as well, once again this season. This has left mainly Hugo Ekitike to need to lead the line for Liverpool.

Sometimes Slot has played Federico Chiesa and Florian Wirtz there as sort of false nines. But mostly the responsibility has fallen on Ekitike's shoulder.

Now had things turned out differently it could have fallen on Will Wright to be a back-up forward.

Liverpool signed the 17-year-old from Salford City in the summer. He scored over 40 goals for the club's academy last season and even made several senior appearances, being the only 16-year-old alongside Rio Ngumoha to make an appearance in the FA Cup third round last season.

Wright immediately made a mark at the club. On the day he signed for Liverpool he made his first-team debut against Athletic Bilbao in a friendly and looked very bright.

Full of energy and drive, Wright was close to scoring a goal which would have capped off the perfect day for him.

Since then he has played a handful of games for the club's academy at U21 level before picking up an injury in Liverpool's opening UEFA Youth League game against Atletico Madrid.

Because of that injury, Wright has been ruled out ever since and it's a real shame because there may have been opportunities for him in the first-team had he been fit.

Thankfully, he's expected to return to action soon. There's a belief and hope that he will be available for selection by December or January.

Liverpool will not rush him back and will manage him carefully in order to prevent further aggravations.

In the meantime, Wright's agency Omnisports has announced that the young Liverpool forward has signed a new deal with Nike, becoming the brand's representative athlete.

Writing on Instagram, the agency described this as a 'massive moment' in Wright's career.

"Nike believes. Will delivers," the agency wrote.

"Congratulations to Will Wright on signing with Nike. A massive moment and another step in his journey. Big things ahead."
