Spanish press LOVE Liverpool star who ‘ate’ up Real Madrid
Liverpool's players earned plenty of praise after beating Real Madrid. The Spanish press picked out one for special treatment, though.
Liverpool got their statement win on Tuesday, beating Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield with a fantastic performance. Really, they would have won by a lot more if not for Thibaut Courtois pulling of a string of brilliant saves.
This was exactly what the Reds needed. Their form has been quite awful since before the international break but they proved here that they're capable of beating anyone.
More importantly, they proved their ability to out-perform anyone. Liverpool were the better team, controlling the fixture for almost its entirety in all areas of the pitch.
Arne Slot's masterclass gave his team the edge and the players themselves executed everything to perfection. It certainly took those individual displays to get Liverpool over the line, too.
That was recognised in Spain, with Marca paying particular attention to one Red: Conor Bradley.
Conor Bradley hailed
Marca wrote up a feature on Bradley after the game, hailing him as Real Madrid’s ‘kryptonite’. The right-back has now shone in back-to-back games against Los Blancos after his eye-catching display last season.
This, though, was a more well-rounded display. Bradley was brilliant at everything he tried, honestly, be it containing Vinicius Jr one-on-one or running the ball up the pitch and out of trouble.
Real Madrid just didn’t know what to do with him. Marca say he ‘ate’ Vinicius, describing the Brazilian as a ‘victim’ as Bradley won three tackles, eight duels and made seven recoveries.
It’s all especially notable given Bradley’s place in the lineup was assured by Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid. The Scouser was heavily booed on his return as a second-half substitute - and rightly so - while his successor has hailed as possibly the best player on the pitch.
And so there’s a sense that Liverpool haven’t really lost out as things stand. They certainly miss a lot of what Alexander-Arnold did for the team, there’s no question there, but they’ve found qualities in Bradley that can lead to starring roles in massive games.
