Elite Liverpool star hitting the gym ‘WAY more’ now

One Liverpool star admits he's now hitting the gym 'way more’. The Reds will see an improvement.

What a summer transfer window that was, then. Liverpool moved for a series of star players, twice breaking their transfer record as they overhauled their squad.

Alexander Isak is now the most expensive player in the history of British football, in fact. The Swede arrived from Newcastle United after a draw-out saga, finally making his debut against Atlético Madrid this week.

But that debut shined a light on the interesting situation Isak’s arrival creates. What happens with Hugo Ekitiké? The Frenchman also joined Liverpool in the summer but found himself on the bench for the Reds’ UEFA Champions League opener.

Perhaps there’s a new formation on the way at Anfield but for now, one or the other will be playing. Ekitiké will need to be up to the challenge of competing with one of the world’s best forwards.

But it sounds as though he’s already making the right changes.

Hugo Ekitiké is hitting the gym

Ekitiké says he's in the gym 'way more' since arriving at Liverpool as he looks to improve and match the physicality of the Premier League.

"The intensity is high here," he told Stan Sport. "On the ball and off the ball. So obviously you have to - I work way more in the gym here than before, with the athletic coaches.

"But in terms of pure football, I just play my football. And I have good players around me so they make that easy."

It's what you like to hear. Ekitiké has all the potential in the world and is clearly a world-class talent.

He still needs to find ways to compete and improve, though, if he's to fulfil that ridiculous potential. The fact he's got to keep up with Isak will only help in that regard - he'll have to be at his absolute best to play regularly at Liverpool.

It sounds as though he's quickly heading in the right direction with that, though. Liverpool have a special on here and we can't wait to see what kind of player he becomes.
