Wonderkid striker TRAINS with Liverpool first-team ahead of Atletico Madrid clash
Liverpool have included a teenage striker in their training ahead of the crunch clash with Atletico Madrid. Arne Slot has a look at what he can do.
Liverpool return to UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday evening as they host Atlético Madrid. The Reds hope to go a bit further than last season, where they dropped out at the first knockout round to Paris Saint-Germain.
Of course, that’s underselling what happened. Liverpool actually won the league phase, only dropping points in the final game.

They were then brutally unfortunate to be pitted against PSG as a result. The Parisians turned out to be the strongest side in the competition and Liverpool pushed them the furthest, with a penalty shoot-out the only difference between the two.
Now, though, they’ve got to do the league phase all over again. It starts with Atletico visiting Anfield and there’s an interesting face with the Reds in training.
Jayden Danns in Liverpool training
Jayden Danns has trained with Liverpool on Tuesday as they prepare for the Atletico fixture. He joins Alexander Isak is hoping to make the squad for the clash and potentially appear for the first time this season.
Of course, the pair come from very different places. Danns is a homegrown talent who lacked football last season after his loan to Sunderland was ruined by injury.
Isak, on the other hand, is the most expensive signing in British football history. A challenge for Danns to find minutes, then.
But the Scouser has forced his way into contention before. Danns has three goals for the first-team, after all, despite only featuring nine times.
Whether he’ll face Atletico, though, is another question. Hugo Ekitiké and Isak are a formidable duo to compete with.
It is notable, however, that Liverpool declined to loan Danns out again this season. They deliberately held onto him and so we’ve got to believe there’s some sort of intention to play him.
The striker certainly gave Arne Slot a reason to pay attention at the weekend. He played for 30 minutes in a friendly for the Under 21s and left with a goal and assist.
More of the same on Wednesday?
