As a record British transfer all eyes are naturally on Alexander Isak at the moment.

Even though he has left Newcastle, a lot of the Geordies are still keeping an eye on how he's getting on at Liverpool.

Admittedly, things have been a little slower for Isak than expected but this was always going to be the case given the summer he had to endure.

He missed most of pre-season, which means he hasn't come back to Liverpool match sharp at all.

One goal so far is not an ideal start, but this is just the beginning. Liverpool know what he is capable of and they will have no qualms about his ability.

He's here for the long-term. Not just the next few months but the next few years. That's exactly why the club and the supporters will be extremely pleased about the latest development surrounding the Swedish star.

Breaking off for international duty was supposed to give Isak a new lease of life away from Liverpool. It was an opportunity for him to bounce back in more familiar territory.

In reality the October international break has been nothing short of a disappointment for Isak. Once again, Newcastle fans have delighted in Sweden's consecutive defeats.

Isak played the full 90 minutes in both matches and failed to score a goal in either one with Switzerland and Kosovo beating his national team.

It means that Sweden's chances of qualifying for the World Cup are very slim. They rely on Kosovo losing to both Slovenia and Switzerland by a considerable margin, while Sweden needs to beat Switzerland away and Slovenia at home to stand a chance of reaching the second spot which would take them to a play-off spot.

With just one point picked up in qualifying so far after four matches, the chances of Sweden turning it around and results going their way in the group are slim.

It means they are essentially eliminated from World Cup contention and Isak will not be at the tournament next summer.

This is something that Newcastle fans can gloat about. However, Liverpool will be pretty delighted about it as well.

What has happened to Isak is the perfect scenario for the Reds' supporters. He's been able to play two full matches and get even closer back to match-fitness.

At the same time though, it's also been guaranteed that next year he won't have any other distraction away from Liverpool.

Instead of playing play off matches in March, he'll be involved in friendlies, where he may not even play. And next summer, instead of being at a long and gruelling tournament, he'll be at the AXA training centre preparing for pre-season.

That's exactly what everyone supporting the club will have wanted.
