Liverpool deal now ON as club ready to accept €35m
Liverpool's transfer is now on with the club ready to accept a deal for him at €35m.
Time is running out for Richard Hughes to make a move in the market. It's just a few days until the window shuts on Monday evening.
Until then, Hughes still has the ability to reinforce Liverpool's squad and bring in the players Arne Slot desperately needs in order for his system to work.
This includes additional depth at the back, by either signing a centre-back or a right-back or someone like Joe Gomez who can play both.
Or extra attacking depth and speed. Slot has been speaking regularly about wanting his team to be faster and having quicker players in attack.
Well, one potential deal is now on for Liverpool to complete.
Anfield Watch exclusively reported that Liverpool have eyed Jean-Matteo Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt as a possible target.
Liverpool scouts have been impressed by the incredibly fast Eintracht Frankfurt winger who caught the eye last season with his link-up play with Hugo Ekitike.
An excellent dribbler, Bahoya's biggest asset is his speed. The winger clocked a remarkable 37.16 km/h in a match against Bochum last season, which meant he was the first player to break the 37 km/h mark in the Bundesliga.
For comparison, the world's fastest man Usain Bolt had an average speed of about 37.58 km/h (23.35 mph) during his 9.58-second 100m world record.
Bahoya's record makes him the fastest player in Europe at the moment.
So, he's exactly the profile Liverpool need and Frankfurt seem to be ready to let him go, which opens the door for Hughes to make a move.
Sacha Tavolieri reported on X that Al Hilal also want to sign Bahoya and that he could be on the move with Frankfurt ready to accept a package worth €30m to €35m for the French player.
That would make Bahoya an absolute bargain. For a player of his age and quality, it's a move that makes absolute sense. He'd bring in extra ammunition in a position where Liverpool are lacking depth.
The club has always had a clear strategy in January and that involved not being proactive but reactive to the market. This means moving for long-term targets who become available and sought after.
Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are great examples of this.
Bahoya feels like another one. It looks like his club are open to a deal and Al Hilal are trying, which could force Liverpool's hands to act.
This is a move to keep an eye on.
