Liverpool have completed phase one of an ambitions €120m transfer plan. It should transform everything.

Liverpool spent an incredible amount of money in the summer as they reshaped their attack and full-backs. Record numbers went out on new players and while we still haven't seen the best of it, this was a significant investment in the future.

Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz are 23 and 22 respectively, while Milos Kerkez is still just 22 himself. Giovanni Leoni is even younger at just 19.

But the Reds certainly aren't stopping there. Attention has turned to centre-back and for good reason.

Virgil van Dijk is now 34 and coming into the final year of another Liverpool contract. Ibrahima Konate's deal actually expires in the summer, while Joe Gomez nearly left the club in the summer - and may not be a long-term option as a result.

The last couple of days have seen Liverpool firmly address the situation. They're pushing through a €120m transfer plan and phase one is complete.

Liverpool’s grand plan

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. In doing so, they’re getting one of the brightest centre-back prospects on the planet - possibly the brightest.

It’s something they’ve actually tried to do for the last few years. The club failed to land Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen, however did land Leoni last summer.

Now they’ve got Jacquet arriving after the season - and that’s phase one of the centre-back plan. Phase two is actually quite clear: Jarell Quansah.

Liverpool were sure not to give up on the academy product when they sold him to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. The dream scenario is that they develop him to his full potential, which is considerable, and that the Reds will then buy him back.

It’s a deal that guarantees Liverpool a fee for Quansah should he never reach his peak but also work out as essentially just paying Leverkusen for his development if he does. A clause is in the deal for that exact scenario - as well as terms agreed with the player for the return.

The clause stands at around €60m, per Fabrizio Romano, and comes into play from 2027. This is the ideal outcome for Liverpool and the grand plan.

Sign Jacquet, partner him for Quansah, and you end up with a homegrown star alongside one of the biggest prospects going. And that’s before you add in the returning Leoni.

The future is incredibly bright.
