Last-ditch move is ON as club approach Liverpool for talks
Liverpool are in talks over a last-ditch move before the transfer window shuts. They're short on time, however.
Liverpool haven't made any senior moves in the January transfer window and we're now days away from it closing. There is one that seemed very close, however.
Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur looked to be done. In fact, Liverpool did agree on terms there and we were pretty certain it would get over the line before the window shut.
However, there was a problem: Liverpool couldn't afford to lose a left-back without a replacement. At the same time, they weren't willing to sign a replacement.
The only option was to bring back Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma. That reportedly held the deal up, though strangely, it now seems like the left-back may head elsewhere.
Kostas Tsimikas to Besiktas?
Journalist Efecan Oztas reports that Besiktas are in talks with Liverpool over Tsimikas. They want to take him on loan for the rest of the season.
Now, Roma are happy to let him leave as Tsimikas has failed to break into their team. But that was the case with sending him back to Liverpool, too - the problem was that they couldn't find a replacement.
If they could, they'd let him go. That's essentially the only way Besiktas can get ahold of him. But if they can have him, why couldn't Liverpool? It doesn't make too much sense.
Unless the Reds have decided not to sell Robertson regardless of Tsimikas returning or not. It was reported previously by Ben Jacobs that the Greek had actually rejected a move to Besiktas, too, as he only wanted to return to Liverpool.
But if Besiktas are in talk with him, it again suggests that a Liverpool return is off the table. That only makes sense if the Reds are keeping Robertson, regardless of Tsimikas's availability.
We'll have to wait and see what happens here because it's an incredibly convoluted situation. It seems that Tsimikas may swap loans before the window closes.
What that means for Robertson, though, is unclear.
