It's finally all OVER for Arne Slot at Liverpool after another mishap
Arne Slot's future at Liverpool is all over after yet another mishap.
It's important to preface before we say anything further: the Dutchman will go down as a club legend. Any manager that wins the league title has the right to that status.
Slot delivered a fantastic campaign for most of last season, but that does not excuse one of the worst runs in the club's history since that Premier League triumph.
Slot won less than 50% of his games in 2025. He's won four games from 10 matches in 2026, and currently the club has won just six games all season in the Premier League.
Three of those games came in August. So, since September Liverpool have only won three matches in the league.
That is simply not good enough, and there is no going back from this.
The Manchester City game on Sunday night showed that Slot was out of his depth. This was a City side that had not won at Anfield in the league since 1937. For those who aren't aware of history, that is before World War Two.
But it's not even about the result, it's about the performance. This was another mishap from Slot.
Midweek, he gave his players time off. Rather than preparing for a huge game at Anfield, the players were able to go on a mini holiday.
From one point of view, it's understandable to be given time off during a busy season. But from another, if you are given time off and have an eight day rest between one game and another, you're expected to increase your intensity in your next match.
Liverpool didn't do that. They could not capitalise on a Manchester City side that has looked vulnerable in the build-up all season. The press and the intensity from the Reds was poor.
Pep Guardiola's team controlled the match. Liverpool may have taken the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai, and at that point may even had had the upper hand.
But they never seemed like the team that was going to go on and win the game. City created better and more high volume chances. They were more effective on the ball and just looked miles better.
It was a damning indictment of Slot's style of football. There's no redeeming quality to it.
Slot set-up in a way that wasn't effective again. He's been outclassed in most Premier League matches, and against most Premier League managers this season.
City was merely confirmation that it's all over for him as the long-term head-coach of the club.
It doesn't matter how many roundtables Liverpool record. It doesn't matter what the club will officially brief to the media. Because if results continue this way, and they will, he will be relieved of his duties. It's a matter of when, not if now.
And the sooner it happens, the better for Liverpool.
