It's all over for Arne Slot, only one man can save Liverpool now

Arne Slot's Liverpool tenure is all over.

Sooner or later, the Dutchman will leave the club. There's no going back from the situation he has got himself into at Anfield. Slot's position is simply not tenable.

The aftermath of Liverpool's draw with Leeds confirmed that not only is he inept tactically, he is up against a divided dressing room with one of his star players a leading voice of discontent in Mo Salah.

This is pretty much curtains for Slot. He cannot fix something that is already broken into smithereens.

On top of everything backing from the supporters in Slot is hanging on by a hair's breadth, and that is being generous.

Liverpool are playing dull football without success and with arguably one of the best possible teams assembled in the transfer window.

Slot is not the long-term manager for this club. Neither is he the short-term option.

It's a tricky situation Liverpool have got themselves involved in.

When looking at short-term options in the market there isn't really anyone who can come in immediately with a proven pedigree.

Jurgen Klopp is simply an unrealistic target. There's no way he would return to Anfield so soon, nor would he be open to working with Michael Edwards again.

So, that leaves Liverpool with one option and it's the only option that could potentially save the season.

Steven Gerrard.

Sure his managerial career has not been as successful as you would like. He's still delivered a league title at Rangers though. And his spell at Aston Villa came with challenges.

Gerrard is Liverpool through and through. Managing another club in the Premier League was always going to be difficult for him.

He isn't a tactical genius. He is no mastermind. But he is a figure people look up to. A figure who can lead by example and who can knit the whole team to stand together.

He's done that so many times as a player at Anfield.

Now the club needs him again and he is absolutely the only viable option.

In a team full of egos and players searching for inspiration, the club's greatest ever player coming in could give them exactly what they need. The lift we've all been waiting for.

On top of that, the fans are going to get behind Gerrard. Because he is simply adored at the club.

This is the only way you're going to get everyone on your side. The only way you can save the season and save the club.
