"I probably did not believe" - Diogo Jota on signing for Liverpool
Diogo Jota has revealed that he did not believe Liverpool would be interested in him.
The Reds signed the 25-year-old forward from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of £40.23 million back in the summer of 2020.
Since then, Jota has scored 34 goals and registered nine assists in 85 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. In other words, the Portugal international has had a pretty good start to his Anfield career.
However, Jota has said that he never believed he would end up representing the Reds when he was a youngster.
As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told Sky Sports the following: "From the moment that I had the opportunity, I never dropped it again. I think when we are young we always believe. But I probably did not believe that I could reach Liverpool. I just took it day by day.
"This hunger has been with me ever since I can remember. In my youth, growing up, I never played for the big teams. I had a few team-mates who went to Porto or Benfica. I had trials there but I never stayed. I was one of the better ones but never the best."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Jota has proven to be a very good signing for Liverpool. However, the forward has not played for the Reds this season.
Jota suffered a hamstring injury before the 2022-23 campaign got underway.
So, we haven't been able to watch the 25-year-old in action recently, which has been disappointing.
But, Jota will be back. It will be a good day when he returns to the football pitch.
