With limited options on the bench, Arne Slot called upon Wataru Endo to step up and fill in at right-back.

In just his 10th appearance of the season, the Japan international looked solid, helping the Reds to a clean sheet and a dominant win.

With a place in the Champions League round of 16 secured all focus is now on Liverpool’s match against Newcastle at the weekend, and Endo has to start.

Wataru Endo saved his Liverpool career against Qarabag

Although he wasn’t able to pick up an assist on the night, Endo did contribute to the attack and was a genuine threat on the right-hand side.

With less than 18 months remaining on his contract, a winter departure of Endo wouldn’t have come as a shock to many supporters.

Liverpool’s lack of depth in the midfield would be a concern if Endo were to leave, but the veteran has now made himself indispensable by proving his versatility.

The 32-year-old is capable of playing as a central defender too and could play a vital part in the Reds’ campaign over the next few weeks.

Slot has faced plenty of scrutiny over the past few months, and his job is by no means secure, so the Dutchman may be tempted to trust Endo more for Liverpool’s upcoming matches after Wednesday's display.

The extent of Frimpong’s injury is unclear, but if Endo is trusted to play at right-back again against Newcastle on Saturday and he can put in as solid another solid performance, he will be a player Liverpool supporters see a lot more of going into February.
