Liverpool would 'love' to bring in a star before the transfer window closes, says Fabrizio Romano. But will it happen?

There are now just a few days left in the transfer window before squads are locked in for the rest of the campaign. Liverpool, though, haven't done anything.

Their first team squad will look identical to the one they started January with - no incomings, no outgoings. Though, the latter was very nearly changed.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have actually agreed on terms over a transfer for Andy Robertson. The Reds will only let him go if Kostas Tsimikas returns from AS Roma, however, and that now looks unlikely.

And so the squad will remain the same. Though, it seems Liverpool would bring in a new star if they were able to. They've even got a name in mind.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Liverpool would ‘love’ to sign Jeremy Jacquet this month. Along with Chelsea, there’s a real desire to get a deal done in January.

However, Rennes do not share that desire. They intend to hold onto the player for the rest of the season and then likely sell in the summer.

“Chelsea and Liverpool would love to do business now,” Romano said on Youtube. “But Rennes insist on selling the player in the summer.

“So Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern [Munich] are all in the conversations with Rennes and the player side. So let’s see what’s going to happen there."

Liverpool could certainly use a centre-back this month but it appears they’ll simply wait for Jacquet to be available. It’s similar to the situation in 2021, where the Reds decided to wait for Ibrahima Konate rather than go all-out on options that January.

Funnily enough, Jacquet could now end up being Konate’s replacement as the latter’s contract nears expiry. Certainly, one to watch this year.

We just wish it were happening this week.
