If there was one piece missing from the final jigsaw at the end of the summer transfer window it was probably a centre-back for Liverpool.

Richard Hughes has an all-but perfect transfer period over the course of the last three months. However, in the end he missed out on Marc Guehi during the final few minutes of the window being shut.

It will have been a disappointing one for Liverpool. But ultimately it doesn't cost them too much in the short-term. Arne Slot has plenty of centre-back options, even if Giovanni Leoni is untested for example.

But aside from the Italian, there's Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as well. Not to mention Wataru Endo also played as a centre-back under Slot in the past, and has spent a large portion of his career in that role while playing in Japan.

So, Liverpool do have options to last them until January or the end of the season, but at the end of the day, they need one more. Gomez is injury prone, Konate can have his bouts with injuries as well and Van Dijk is not getting any younger. Leoni on the other hand is very inexperienced.

So Guehi makes sense. But he's not the only player on the club's radar.

Liverpool will not be foolish. They will have a lot of alternative options. Especially because the situation for the Reds could become even more precarious next summer of Konate doesn't extend his current contract which expires in the summer of 2026.

If that happens, Hughes will likely need not just one but two centre-back additions. Guehi, having already agreed a deal to join Liverpool could be one of those players.

But who might be the other one?

Well, it could be another German international making the move to Anfield. Just like Florian Wirtz did this summer.

Nnamdi Collins talks about his role model in football and sends come and get me plea

An interesting centre-back in football as the moment is the German international Nnamdi Collins.

He is currently the star of Eintracht Frankfurt and can play both as a centre-back and as a right-back. Recently, he also made his debut for the German senior national team and he's still only 21-years-old.

Altogether, he is a sensational talent and someone who could reach the very top of the game.

Now as per Get Football News Germany, Collins was speaking about his role model and has revealed that his favourite player is Liverpool's very own Van Dijk.

“I was rooting for Liverpool in the draw," Collins said.

"Van Dijk is, in my opinion, the best central defender in the world. I can learn everything from him: his heading ability and timing, his calmness and physical presence, his aura.”

Collins was also asked about some players who left the German side over the last 12 months, including Hugo Ekitike and Omar Marmoush and made an interesting remark about Liverpool.

“I’m incredibly happy in Frankfurt, but I also think the Premier League is great, especially Liverpool FC. You should always set high goals; that’s why we all started playing football," Collins said.

If that's not a come and get me plea, then nothing is. Should it be something Hughes heeds? Well only time will tell. Collins is definitely a player to keep a close eye on.
