Liverpool have been handed a massive injury boost.

Liverpool's last 12 months have been defined not only by transition and change, but also by a relentless injury crisis that has repeatedly disrupted the club's progress.

The Reds have struggled to build momentum as key players have spent significant periods on the sidelines. Perhaps the most frustrating case has been Alexander Isak.

Signed amid huge expectations following his long-awaited arrival at Anfield, the Swedish striker has found it difficult to establish any rhythm. Just as he appeared ready to hit top form, injury setbacks interrupted his campaign, limiting both his minutes and his impact.

He has not been alone. Hugo Ekitike endured a lengthy spell out of action, while highly-rated defender Giovanni Leoni also suffered a long-term injury that stalled his development during a crucial stage of his first season at the club.

Conor Bradley, who had emerged as an increasingly important member of Liverpool's squad, was another player forced to spend extended time in the treatment room.

The bad luck has even extended to Liverpool's newest arrivals.

Victor Munoz completed his move to Anfield only to suffer an injury within 24 hours of joining the club. The setback has immediately cast doubt over his availability for Spain's upcoming World Cup clash against Saudi Arabia and has added another name to an already lengthy injury list.

For new head coach Andoni Iraola, addressing Liverpool's fitness problems could be just as important as any tactical innovation.

The Spaniard has inherited a talented squad, but one that has struggled to keep its best players available consistently. No manager can fully eliminate injuries, but reducing the number of long-term absences will be crucial if Liverpool are to compete across multiple fronts.

If Iraola is to deliver success at Anfield, he will need not only strong performances on the pitch but also far better fortune off it. Liverpool simply cannot afford another season dominated by injury concerns.

There is good news on the way though. One of Liverpool's most promising young wingers is Joshua Abe. He's super fast and strong and has a wand of a left foot.

Many within the academy circles are already talking about him as someone who is a bigger talent than Rio Ngumoha was at the same age.

Liverpool have agreed a scholarship and a pre-professional deal with Abe, and have even handed him a first-team squad number, with Abe set to wear the no.40 for the Reds next season.

However, for the last few months he has been recovering from a serious injury and there have been question marks over whether he would be able to start pre-season with Andoni Iraola's team.

Well there is good news because it looks like Abe has returned from injury. Lewis Bower reported that Abe was doing ball and gym work during an agency meet with Gersh this week, which means he should be back in time for pre-season.

It's massive news, and it makes Abe the clear player to watch out for in pre-season this summer.
