Source claims to shed light on dressing room 'unrest' at Liverpool

Arne Slot has reportedly ignited dressing room unrest according to one reporter.

It's hard not to feel for the Dutchman. Slot was the greatest thing since sliced bread this time last year. Now, among many Liverpool supporters even the mere mention of his name leaves a sour taste.

How quickly and dramatically Slot's stock has fallen is not entirely his fault. He is just the head-coach of the club and things are not all in his control.

Slot helps with the decision making when it comes to recruitment but ultimately it's in the hands of Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

Liverpool's recruitment does leave question marks, and it's not Slot's fault that the squad he won the Premier League title with last season is vastly different now and completely imbalanced.

It's also out of his control how unprecedented Liverpool's injury crisis has been. Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and now Hugo Ekitike have been just a few of the key players who have suffered long-term injuries this season.

Trying to navigate a squad like that is bound to be messy.

And yet, there are certain situations where Slot must himself admit that he too is culpable. He will be the first to concede that things haven't been perfect in the way he has set-up games and made tactical decisions.

He will be the first to admit that the way Liverpool are playing right now is not the way he wants the Reds to play.

Watch his Feyenoord side and you can see the intensity and the quick attacking style of play that characterised Slot's time in the Netherlands and that made him the perfect candidate for this job.

Tactically, there are few as astute as Slot. However, management is not just about tactics and it's clear that Liverpool's players are missing something.

Things just aren't clicking. Could this be down to personnel? Maybe with a few new signings Slot's side could be back on track.

But that isn't guaranteed. We won't know until it actually happens.

Could it be that Slot's man-management skills are not what is required for players devoid of confidence? Again only those inside the dressing room may know the full answer.

Those outside of the situation cannot fully know what is going on.

This is why it's particularly interesting that a renowned Egyptian journalist, Ismael Mahmoud, has claimed to shed light on the situation inside the dressing room.

According to his source, Slot has seemingly ignited a bit of a civil war inside the Liverpool dressing room and has caused unrest among the players.

Mahmoud wrote the following on social media:

"A source revealed that the dressing room is in a state of quiet unrest, with a significant number of players unhappy with Arne Slot’s blunt approach in dealing with the team’s senior figures. Undermining established leaders, they believe, does not instill discipline but instead fuels tension.

"The manager is increasingly losing the backing of the dressing room, as players interpret his treatment of the club’s top scorer, Mohamed Salah, as a negative signal to the entire squad. This has led to a growing trust deficit, widening by the day. Within the squad, there is a clear sense that players gravitate towards those who protect them in difficult moments, rather than those who use them to assert authority.

"The discontent has not been limited to decisions involving Salah, but has also extended to Slot’s communication style. At times, players have taken issue with what they perceive as a condescending tone, particularly in his public explanations and press conference remarks. These have drawn noticeable frustration from senior and influential members of the squad.

"Several players have also grown weary of what they see as the manager’s tendency to deflect responsibility in the face of setbacks, while portraying himself publicly as an infallible figure. Meanwhile, the burden of this approach—led by Salah—has been carried by the players themselves.

"Should Slot remain in charge next season, there is a growing belief that such dynamics could increase the likelihood of certain players considering moves away in the future."

Obviously, we cannot know the validity of this source, so it's important to note that all of these suggestions have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

One thing is certain, Slot's job is not an easy one. Far from it. However, as a Premier League winning manager, you cannot completely discard that he can turn this around and turn the dressing room around also, if the above is true.
