Liverpool have been undeniably disappointing this season.

The Reds stormed to their second Premier League title in five years in Arne Slot’s debut campaign, and many thought that success was a guarantee this season too.

After securing their 20th league title, the club sanctioned a spend of over £400 million in the transfer window, adding some truly world class talent like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

Success hasn’t been guaranteed this season though, in fact it has been a rarity, and Slot now finds himself under immense pressure to turn things around before the end of the season.

There is plenty of speculation about the Dutchman’s future, but the 47-year-old recently gave some insight into his immediate future.

Arne Slot reveals Liverpool summer plans

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City, Slot was questioned as to whether he is heavily involved in the Reds’ summer transfer planning.

In response, the head coach said: “Yes I am, and I know why you ask this question.”

The club and multiple well-placed sources have made repeated assurances that those in power at Anfield remain confident in Slot’s ability to turn things around, and that faith has clearly been shown to Slot directly.

When he arrived in 2024 the general understanding was that Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by Richard Hughes, would take the lead on transfers, with Slot’s role revolving more around coaching.

The Dutchman obviously has some input on transfers, but it has never been entirely clear just how much sway he has and Slot has always been reluctant to talk about any transfer dealings until they are made official.

Slot’s confirmation that he is involved in the transfer planning ahead of the summer is a sure sign that he believes he will continue as Liverpool boss.

A strong finish will be needed in order for his job to be secure, with Champions League qualification or winning a trophy seen as the likely targets.

Liverpool's embarrassing defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday won't have helped the Dutchman's case, but his future is yet to be decided.
