Arne Slot's damning comments confirm Liverpool need to fire him

It's all over for Arne Slot at Liverpool and his own comments confirm it.

Let's face it, we all want the head coach to succeed. Liverpool are a club who has patience for its managers and players. There is a breaking point though.

It's only so much you can tolerate as a fan before you start to get irked. Liverpool had a win percentage of 50% in 2025. They've had an even worse start to the year in 2026, winning just four of the first 10 matches.

Slot's results speak for themselves. He may have started brilliantly during his first six months in charge of Liverpool but it's been a downhill roller coaster from there.

And there's no sign of things turning the other way, of Liverpool ascending higher than they are at the moment. Despite the mass spending, despite all the world-class players he has at his disposal, Slot just doesn't seem to make things click in his favour.

He'll always be a legend at Anfield. There is no questioning his achievement in winning a Premier League title. Few managers have done that at Liverpool, and Slot deserves absolute credit for the way he led that team to triumph.

But unfortunately every manager has a shelf life. Some managers have a lot longer of an expiry date than others. Slot's style of football was delicious but brief.

He has been found out in the Premier League. Teams are dominating against Liverpool because they know Slot's weaknesses and he doesn't know how to counter them.

Recently, in his press conference ahead of the club's trip to Sunderland, Slot opened up about his security in the role and raised some interesting points as per The Times:

“That is again a difficult question for me to answer because I don’t decide on my future. The only thing I do know is that it happened before, and ­recently, and it didn’t affect the future of that manager. But that doesn’t guarantee anything, of course.

“In general, [with] managers, especially at this club — maybe somewhere else it is mainly, but not only, about results — they also look at the progress the players make, the progress the team makes, the circumstances are sometimes taken into account.

“That is not at all clubs, but I think I am working at a club that does look at those things. As it has shown in the past when the club did not qualify for the Champions League.”

Slot listed a few criteria here, and by his own definition, it should confirm that Liverpool need to fire him.

Because the real problem is not only the results but the lack of progress. Slot has not changed anything in a positive way since the start of the season; Liverpool continue to have similar problems and struggle to control games.

If circumstances are taken into account, no Liverpool coach had been given as much of a war-chest as Slot was given in the summer. There should be no excuses for him to be performing this badly.

And the third comment about players making a progress is laughable. There isn't a single player Slot has improved or made into a better player during his time at the club.

In fact, a lot of young players' developments have stagnated under him. Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha are two examples.

So, Slot has pretty much confirmed in his own words that he needs to be fired. He hasn't lived up to any of the expectations at the club.
