Arne Slot can save Liverpool with ONE must-happen change

Arne Slot can turn the tides at Liverpool but only if a must-happen change is enacted. It's time for something new.

Liverpool sunk to another defeat on Sunday as Manchester City turned them over 3-0 at the Etihad. It was a poor performance, in truth, with the Reds never really having any control.

They gave up chances, created little, and just couldn't get near City at times. They looked like comfortably the worse team - and far from one capable of competing for the Premier League title.

That's a mad thing to say about the defending champions who spent a record-breaking amount over the summer. It's also the reality, though.

Liverpool have lost five of their last six in the Premier League after this one. It's undone a brilliant week, too, as the Reds recaptured their ability to win games by beating Aston Villa 2-0 and Real Madrid 1-0.

However, those wins might be why Liverpool couldn't get the better of City. And it's a sign that Arne Slot simply must make a change.

Arne Slot must change

Slot made an incredibly brave decision ahead of the win over Real Madrid. He made just one substitution against Villa, keeping out 10 first-XI players for the full 90 minutes.

He then played an almost identical team against Madrid and played the majority of them for the full 90. That created a headache for the City clash - this was a team that was clearly exhausted towards the second half at Anfield.

The truly crazy thing, then, was that we saw the same XI start against City. Liverpool looked shattered by the end of the first half and that continued into the second.

In fact, City's second goal came from Liverpool lacking the energy to press on the edge of their own box. It's a situation that can't go on.

Slot simply must change from being a coach who trusts and XI and sticks with it. This has been his way since arriving at Liverpool - the likes of Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa barely played last season because Slot didn't rotate.

But that has cost the Reds this month. It will inevitably cost them again, especially as they enter the busy Christmas period and aim to compete in multiple competitions.

There's no chance that Liverpool compete for trophies, though, with this current plan. The players don't have it in them to play this many high-intensity games and trust must be placed in others.

Chiesa being a key example. He's been great repeatedly this season but has just one start across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

That cannot continue. The same goes for a player like Wataru Endo - he absolutely has a use but we're not seeing it. And if Liverpool want to win anything this season - or even just turn things around - that mentality must change.
