However, the player is said to be aware that a €50m offer is on the table from Liverpool, which is something that he might be tempted to consider if his current role in Hansi Flick's side changes.

This specific transfer update has come from Nicolas Saavedra, a journalist from Uruguay, who is convinced that the Reds are actively making enquiries about the player's contract and availability.

Araujo is tied down until 2031, which makes a deal for him particularly unlikely, but the speculation appears to be telling a different story. At £44m, the 26-year-old is reasonably priced and especially given Van Dijk's age, the player's leadership qualities could make him an ideal new recruit.
