Xherdan Shaqiri has moved to put rumours of an imminent Anfield exit to bed by claiming that he will “definitely stay” at Liverpool.

The diminutive winger has spent much of the last few months on the substitutes bench after falling down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

However, the £13million signing from Stoke City still managed to bag a crucial assist against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final second leg at Anfield, and has now made his stance clear.

“I’m at Liverpool FC, the best club in Europe,” Shaqiri said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“The manager has many good options and has to decide who can play. I knew before my transfer that the competition here is very tough.

“I have a long-term contract and I definitely will stay.”
